Kilgore “Thank You” Statement
Today I received by E-Mail a letter from Jerry Kilgore thanking all of his supporters. The letter is dated today, November 30.
In reading the letter it seems to me that Jerry Kilgore is planning to run again for something. The tone of the E-Mail is optimistic. He even has this quote: …”I see a bright future ahead and I know that someday, there will be a Governor Kilgore.”
I’ve included the letter below in its entirety:
Thank you for your support over the last several years. Marty and I are lucky to be able to count you among our friends. Your support, advice, giving and prayers saw us through the grueling crush of this campaign.
While we were not victorious, we accomplished much in this campaign. We recruited over 11,000 volunteers, raised an unprecedented amount of money and implemented a get-out-the-vote effort unlike any seen in Virginia. While that effort did not bring victory to me, I am glad that it did make the difference for my running mates. They will serve Virginia well over the next four years and I wish them the best in their public service.
Throughout the course of the campaign, we put forward comprehensive reforms to improve the lives of all Virginians. During our ten weeks of Honest Reform proposals, we made the case for improving our educational system by bringing better pay for better teachers, helping localities build and renovate schools, and empowering parents to invest in their children’s education needs. We also put forth proposals to improve our transportation system by increasing local input and control. Additionally, our campaign unveiled comprehensive policy proposals in the areas of health care, public safety, government reform, economic development and tax relief.
Our policy agenda consisted of common sense proposals that should be enacted regardless of who is in the Executive Mansion. I am proud that we offered Virginians the most detailed and comprehensive policy agenda in recent memory.
I sincerely hope that you will continue your involvement in the political process. There are some things worth fighting for. Over the course of this campaign, we fought hard and diligently for lower taxes, limited government, and trusting the people. These values and vision define our Republican Party. That fight is not over. These ideas and principles transcend our campaign.
Election night was a testament to the fact that only in this great Commonwealth, and this blessed country, could a boy who grew up on a farm in Gate City, go on to become the Republican candidate for Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia. There is no defeat in that. We campaigned on a message of honest reform. But at the end of this campaign, the lasting message is this: Whether you are from a rural place like Scott County, the suburbs of Fairfax or the inner city of Norfolk - it doesn’t matter where you call home, because in Virginia, anything is possible through hard work.
As Marty, Klarke, Kelsey and I begin the next chapter of our lives we do so knowing we are blessed to have friends like you by our side. I am optimistic about what the future holds. Like every parent, when I look at my children, Klarke and Kelsey, I see a bright future ahead and I know that someday, there will be a Governor Kilgore.
Again, I want to thank you for your hard work on our behalf. And I want to urge you to dust yourself off and get back out there to fight again for the beliefs we hold dear. This is just a detour; it is in no way the end of the journey. I know that, together, we are going to continue to make Virginia an even better place to call home.
Sincerely,
Jerry Kilgore.
