Not Larry Sabato has been running a series of analysis about the Virginia Senate Districts in preparation for the 2007 elections. NLS has already covered the 2 districts that Smyth County is part of.
The 38th District (Saltville & Rich Valley Precincts in Smyth) analysis can be found here.
The 40th District (all other Smyth Precincts) […]

Gambling in Smyth County?

November 17th, 2006 8:28 AM by Adam

Jerry, From On High, has this interesting post proposing gaming as an option to reinvigorate the economy of Smyth County, particularly Chilhowie.
I think it would be a nice way to infuse some money into the economy and provide some jobs. It’s something worth looking into because it at least is an idea that could […]

Election 2006 Thoughts

Prediction Time

Other: 3%
U.S. House (9th District)
Boucher: 56%
Carrico: 43%
Other: 1%
I think Carrico will keep Boucher below the 60% mark.
The marriage amendment will turn out an unusually higher amount of voters this time I think. This […]

Deplorable

November 5th, 2006 5:50 PM by Adam

Earlier this week, the sheriff, Frank Cassell, of Henry County, Virginia and several deputies were indicted in Federal court for all kinds of criminal corruption. Here is the story from the Roanoke Times.
Every person is innocent until proven guilty. However, in this case the cards are definitely against the sheriff. He remains […]

November 5th, 2006 5:38 PM by Adam

Election Day is almost upon us. I plan to be out campaigning and helping out on the Saltville side of Smyth County. There is nothing like the fun and excitement of Election Day. Meeting all kinds of people that you know and just chatting with people are some of the nice things […]

One of the biggest issues facing American companies today are the so-called “antitrust” policies being implemented by the European Commission (EC). Many American companies are being fined and their business practices inhibited on the disguise of consumer protection.
Microsoft has been the largest target for the EC. Microsoft has been ordered to hand over […]
